    The Context

    The Racing Line is a UK motorsport app founded and developed solely by Dave Ellis. It offers a race calendar for 250+ series, timetables in your timezone and live streams. The app serves 100,000+ fans on iOS and Android.

    Dave was boosting Instagram posts with graphics he made himself and testing other platforms on his own. On good days he saw ~2x return, but usually 1x–2x; roughly $200–500/month in for about the same back — not sustainable. Only ~5% of downloads converted to paid subscribers.

    What We Did

    We set up his ad accounts and campaigns properly and got the app SDK installed so the app reports conversions correctly, enabling more effective campaigns.

    We mapped and optimised the full funnel ad → download → open → subscribe, including the download landing page, pricing and onboarding changes.

    The Results

    Paid ads went from ~1x to a consistent minimum of ~1.5x return (about $1,500/month in → about $2,000/month back, and growing before the off-season pause).

    Download-to-paid conversion 5% → ~20% (measured in the motorsport off-season, the slowest time of year).

    Paid subscribers ~1,000 → 3,200 year over year (note: this period also includes his Android launch).

    App opens ~100,000 → ~400,000 per year (4x).

    2025 was a record year.
